What is a special thing today, 11-11-2011, a date that occurs once in 100 years?
Wow, this is amazing and thanking God if I can stand on this very special day. I read that there are many people out there who also made this day as their special day, such as: marriage, engagement, childbirth and even official announcement.
Besides a very special date, something special also happened to us (especially me) on this day. This morning I met people from the Baduy tribe. Baduy? Yap, Baduy tribe, hohoho. They came from their isolated village to the city and visit us here in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. They want to give reciprocal visit to some friends who had visited them before where one of which is Dian - my friend at work. Dian and some of her community has visited them for several times to their place in 'Baduy Luar' and 'Baduy Dalam'. Well, lucky me because I got splash of this reciprocal visit, where i can see how they are directly without going to Baduy Dalem, yet desire to go there also exists, hehe: D
When I was in junior high school, I read in one history book which explained that Baduy tribe is one of the tribes that still hold their customs very tight and isolates themselves from modernization. And when I see them now in 2011, I realized that it is still like what I read 16 years ago.
As examples:
# Not using vehicle or transportation moda except walking.
And that's right! they walk from their village in Banten to Jakarta. Can you imagine it nowaday? When I asked how many days brought them here, they said 3 days.OMG!
# Not using any various types of footwear. Must be bare feet ( i named it 'Naked Feet' haha). And that's right! I can see their naked feet and surprised. All their feet's shape are same, it are (very) wide and (very) large. Wow!
# Not wearing any modern clothes besides black and white color with a white headband on their head. All clothing should be woven and stitched by their own. All of this refers to one thing, anything that supports their life should not be made with modern machinery.
I'm proud to see them, and applaud on how their persistence in maintaining the tradition. We should respect and preserve them. Keep those tradition Baduy people, we respect you.
